Aside from the amazing photos, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and cherished memories from all of our travels, one of my favorite aspects of traveling is the opportunity to try new things–new drinks, new foods, and at times, new traditions. After the vacation is over and the bags are unpacked, I always try to incorporate some of our new experiences into our daily lives; I‘ll whip up a new drink recipe, or infuse an already solid dinner recipe with ingredients influenced by the vacation.
The Christmas after we traveled to Leavenworth, Washington, I surprised my husband by ordering a Leavenworth delicacy directly from the Cheesemonger’s Shop. You may think that ordering a block of cheese for a Christmas party is somewhat dull, and in some cases you would be right–but not in this case. The Applewood Smoked Cheddar from England is the Cheesemonger’s Shop’s best seller, in fact, it is so good that one night during our stay we locked ourselves in our hotel room with a half pound of cheese, a box of crackers, and a bottle of wine–and as I’m typing that, I feel that it’s a little embarrassing to admit–hello Fat Kid status! 😉
The Christmas Applewood Smoked Cheddar deliveries have continued, year after year, signaling the Christmas season and rekindling our memories of the cute little Bavarian town tucked away in the mountains of Washington.
Do you try to bring home a little piece of the vacation? What are some of your Christmas traditions?
