A Romantic Sail Along the NaPali Coast

Since we’ve been married, my husband and I have made a point to celebrate our anniversaries by traveling around the world. Our first anniversary was spent on the amazing beaches of St. John, and for our second anniversary we cruised through the breathtaking country of Norway.

Not only did we spend our third anniversary on Kauai, but we also celebrated the fifth anniversary of our engagement along the NaPali Coast. So, what better way to celebrate both important events than to go on the exact same romantic dinner cruise that Cody proposed on five years earlier.

Captain Andy’s is our go-to company for a cruise along the NaPali Coast; seriously guys, we book with this company every single time that we visit the island. For a $109 you are treated to four hours of sailing, great food, free drinks, AMAZING service, a beautiful sailboat, the spectacular NaPali Coast, and a romantic sunset to cap off the night.

Does it really get any better?

Napali Coast

No matter how many times we sail the NaPali Coast I am always mesmerized by its beauty. There is no other place like it in the world. Steep, rugged, chiseled cliffs rise up out of the light-teal colored ocean, and the numerous waterfalls cut into the narrow valleys as the sea devours the cliffs from below. The NaPali Coast provides 15-miles of uninterrupted jaw-dropping beauty, and aside from it being slightly windier than we remembered, the day was perfect.

Incredible waterfalls

After cruising the length of the NaPali Coast, the boat turns around and the sails are raised allowing the chance to sail back down the coast. The golden sun slowly sinks in the western sky and the incredible NaPali Cliffs provide a spectacular backdrop for your sail.

As the conch shell is blown, guests are invited to partake in the buffet, which includes: teriyaki chicken topped with diced pineapple, beef with sauteed mushrooms and onions, lemon rice, fresh fruit, salad with papaya dressing, and their famous “sneaky-tiki’s” to wash it all down. Not only was there an abundance of food but the bar was open and the drinks were cold–the “sneaky-tikis” are their own Mai Tai concoction of rum and tropical juices, and they also provide a variety of beer, wine, sodas, and juice. (That $109 is starting to feel like a bargain, right?!)

Captain Andy's Dinner

Maybe all of those “sneaky-tikis” went down too easily, or maybe people were just having a great time, but by the end of the night, as we pulled back into the harbor, the entire boat was singing along to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Smiles, laughter, and conversation filled the air and that’s when I turned to my husband and said, “I think this was our best trip yet.”

Very nice post and thank you for the very kind words. I’m lucky to have such a talented wife and someone that loves to see the world as much (or even more) than I do. We have a blast together. Keep up the excellent work.

    • July 30, 2014 / 3:51 PM

We have a blast together! I wouldn’t want to travel the world with anyone else! 🙂

Congrats on your anniversary…. the key to success is knowing and acknowledging everyday how important your partner is to you and what they mean to you. My favourite part of everyday is that the first thing I see each morning are her big bright blue eyes… nothing else matters after that…. its that same feeling I have had for over 27 years and 5 kids later! We have been lucky enough to travel all over the world (and now we get to leave the kids behind!), and as you said above, I wouldn’t want to travel with anyone else than with her…. keep smiling and always always let your actions towards your partner show them how much they truly mean to you and you will never go wrong! …Wow… enough said from me…. those are some great shots by the way….

Thank you! Great words of wisdom. 🙂 27 years is quite the accomplishment! I’m sure with all of the fun you’ve had they flew right by. I appreciate your thoughtful words and advice. Have a fabulous day!!

What stunning vistas! It sounds like a wonderful trip! Happy Anniversary and may you be blessed with many, many more blissful years and fun adventures! Tomorrow my husband and I will celebrate 30 years of marriage. Not bad for 2 people who only knew each other 2 weeks when he proposed and then we got married 2 weeks later! Crazy, I know, but we’ve made it work with lots of compromise, commitment, love and understanding.

    • July 31, 2014 / 1:07 PM

Thank you very much! and Happy Anniversary to you as well! I love that story–engaged after two weeks of knowing each other, married 2 weeks later, and happily married 30 years later. Now that’s a story! 🙂 Enjoy your day!

Congrats on your anniversary. Beautiful couple and amazing pictures! 🙂

I hope that you and DH would consider Oahu’s Windward side on your next trip. The Ko’olau Mountain Range is no less stunning… but then I spent my life living there at it’s base in Kaneohe. ALOHA Krystle!

      Hi Auntiedoni!
Thanks for the great recommendation. I hope to get back to O’ahu soon. I didn’t get a chance to explore much of the North shore on our last visit, and I really want to have that opportunity. On our next visit to Oahu, I’m definitely checking it out! 🙂

Our only holiday in Hawai’i included Maui and Hawai’i islands in 2010 for our 40th Anniversary. Fabulous. My wife’s excellent choice. Mine for 2010 was a tour of Cuba – our second time there and more thrilling and varied than the first time. You tell a great story with a warm and friendly style. Thanks for liking my “Jamaica” post.

    • August 3, 2014 / 5:42 PM

Thank you for your kind words! 🙂 Cuba sounds amazing. From all the photos I’ve seen it looks like traveling back in time. It looks beautiful! and I’ve always wanted to visit Jamaica. Hopefully we will get there sometime soon.
