Going to Athens on a Groupon?

It’s Travel Tips Thursday!

Have you heard of Groupon.com? Groupon is an online website offering daily deals in and around different metropolitan areas across the United States, as well as in 48 different countries. These awesome deals are to local restaurants, shopping, travel, fitness, even beauty services. My husband and I have found great restaurant deals that allow us to try new places without spending a lot of money. Date nights with delicious food, new locations, and low prices–who doesn’t love that?

One of my favorite components within Groupon is called Groupon Getaways and if I can confess, I’ve spent more than enough time browsing the deals and daydreaming about some of the fabulous locations.

A couple of weeks back I was busy scouring the internet for hotels near Athens and I happened to receive a Groupon Getaway email–talk about perfect timing.

I decided to search for a deal within Groupon Getaways and sure enough there were a few different hotel deals to choose from. Of course, no hotel selection is complete without evaluating the area, checking Google maps–and street view, and then also reading about the reviews on Trip Advisor. (Trip Advisor–how I love you!)

I ended up booking the Groupon Getaway the next day and ended up paying less than half of what we originally thought we would have to pay for our lodging. The deal even includes daily breakfast, I won’t even begin to tell you how happy the free breakfast made my husband. 😉 Sometimes it’s all about the little things…

Have you used Groupon Getaways in your travels? What are some other bargain travel websites I should consider?

Love the Groupon… when we were in Sydney we went for dinner at one of the harbour restaurants and there were 4 of us and we purchased an 80 dollar Groupon Coupon and it covered 4 dinners, two bottles of wine and a couple of beers… value up to $200.
