While in St. Maarten this past June, my husband and I met a new friend. We met as he was running on the beach and as he passed you couldn’t help but like this fellow beach-lover. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get his name, however, his friendliness has stuck with us since our visit.
For today’s purposes I’m going to name him Sig, after the captain on Discovery Channel’s most popular show: Deadliest Catch. Sig is a captain on the crab boat, the Northwestern, and as Captain Sig searches for Red King Crab on the Bering Sea near Alaska, this dog also searches for crabs, half way around the world on the beaches of St. Maarten.
It was entertaining to watch as Sig the dog would run, nose to the ground, along the shoreline; without warning he would stop and begin digging rapidly. Once his buried treasure was found, Sig would throw the crab up in the air and try to catch it as if he were playing a game of catch with his best friend. The incoming surf saved many of the crab as they would disappear within the surf and sand in order to get away from this foolish game.
Sig the dog left the beach as quickly as he came–apparently he thought it was time to move on to the next fun adventure. I hope you have a great Labor Day weekend!
